I would say being intelligent has a part in having grammar, without grammar and many other components, how can you say you are intelligent. If you are going to call yourself intelligent, you should be able to know how to spell, placement of punctuation marks, etc.

Grammar is important, and if you wish other people to be able to understand you better and to perceive you as intelligent, then you should definitely use it.
