Working a Regular Nine to Five #1
As someone who has a strong distaste for authority and control, I find it hard to imagine myself being able to sustain a job where I have a boss and other superiors always telling me what to do.
I am currently employed as a software engineer, but it's merely a paid internship and there's little to no pressure on my end to actually get work done. I still do work, because I enjoy programming, but the only reason I can stand to be there with bosses and such is because I feel like I'm taking advantage of them in some way and exploiting them for money even though I have little actual experience in the field.

I am aware that this is an unhealthy mindset, but I've been anti-establishment and anti-authoritarian since the day I was born. Ask any of my elementary through high school teachers.

My question is, do you relate to this in any way? Does anyone else feel like this, despising the idea of an office job and having someone telling you what to do for the rest of your life, only to generate profit for a corporation where you get next to none of it?
And what are some actual career options pertaining to computer science specifically that I can pursue on my own, without the bosses or supervisors telling me what to do? I am not averse to working hard, just averse to doing what others tell me to.

Ever since I've started working at the age of 18, I've loathed having to force myself out of bed and go to work.

I'm currently employed, and have no Interest whatsoever In what's expected of me and to be honest, couldn't care less about the company and Its personnel. This applies to every job I've had thus far.

It's a contract, and you're trading your time for money. Nothing more, nothing less. If you're highly independent and don't like authority, you'll probably have to start your own business.

This is my problem. The company I work for currently is not a software company by any means, they simply need software to reach their end goal. Thus, I find little reward in writing the code I write for them.

My hope was that, working with other programmers, I would find like minds who enjoy what they do and endeavor in personal projects outside of work. However, all of my coworkers are, to be honest, quite dull. They like football, beer, and making fun of the technologically incompetent employees, and for all of them, their programming stops once they clock out. I try my best to blend in and participate in conversation, but I find that I feel as though I'm wearing a mask the whole time I'm there.

Glad to see I'm not the only one in this position.

This is my current mindset. It's quite comforting to think of it this way, as keeping it purely transactional keeps me sane.

I work 8-5 and get paid about $7/day, but it's not a demanding job and is only temporary. I mostly just watch youtube and browse forums.

The pay is only enough for my day to day spending and rent every month.

Third world country.....

I'm pretty much In the same position.

My commonalities and level of conversation, Is to the contrary of every worker at my workplace. The equation Is pretty simple- they speak, I Ignore. I'm not Interested In one's favorite TV show, nor the birthday party they're attending on Saturday night and so forth.

Unfortunately, I dropped out of school early and as such, did not attend college and do not have any certifications In my passion, namely the IT sector so finding a job In that capacity, Is next to Impossible.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know that online education is an option, but not always a very good one, and it depends on what country you reside in as well. I hope one day you can pursue a career in a job that you find meaningful.

I know the struggle, my first job was at a coffee shop and I was 15 at the time so I was paid under the table. I thought it would be cool to not have to pay taxes, but that isn't much help when they pay you $6 an hour to start with. At least I made tips.

Appreciate your kind words.

I'm quite happy with my computing as a hobby. Given I'm self-taught, I'm my own teacher and although It's quite demanding on a daily basis, I thoroughly enjoy every task I perform, particularly circumventing the security of any entity.

I despise the 9-5 work week. I believe that "the gate keepers" made that schedule so that they could gain control of ppl. After working 9-5 ur too tired to pursue ur goals and dreams. But ur not too tired that you need to go to bed so they trick you into thinking u have this full evening off to do all the things u want but ur most productive hours of the day are spent working for someone else. so ur creativity/motivation/ brain power are almost spent. You get home have just enough time to do one or two activities or chores then dinner and do it all over again the next day.. Another day making someone else's dreams and goals come true and not ur own ( unless ur into that kind of thing lolSmile
