Please voice your opinion.

This Is a hard, If not Impossible question to answer- definitively.
As to why we dream, I've often wondered (and still do) the exact same thing. In my views, I think our subconscious and Inadvertent thoughts play some sort of role In generating dreams to some degree. I'd love to read what other members have to say.

Purely Scientific: When you sleep there are several stages of sleep, primarily based on brainwave frequency. The primary two are REM (Rapid-Eye-Movement) Sleep and Deep Dreamless sleep. Your brain enters REM sleep which wakes it up to a certain degree and the massive influx of random visual data triggers the receptors in your mind responsible for forming patterns. These patterns are influenced by your subconscious mind and psyche to create dreams.
Spiritual: I think that the dream is a part of your body which materializes a world based on activities happening in your day to day life, forming an alternate you. This could be because of the human body desiring to connect with higher planes, and is wishing to ascend. These dreams can be influenced by affirmations during the day/reality checks and through such, give you conscious thought to proceed with your dream. This can lead to all sorts of amazing things from OOBEs to Solving Real Life problems, all because your body wants to be ascended and enlightened.
These could be completely wrong, or they could be mankind's greatest answer. Who knows, I am just a person.

It's a release of N,N-Dimethyltriptamine (DMT) in the brain.
