Just read the thread twice, and you said that you were interested in coding to help benefit people. If you check out Elance.com which is a freelancing site you will see a ton of people that need programmers that code things for the web.

If I were you in your stage I'd learn PHP and HTML to start with. These two languages will get you into website building. When you've spent enough time on these two languages you should ease into JavaScript and learn to put it all together. Then you can create very basic websites, or complex online forums and blogs. For an earning to.

If for gaming development you will want to check out Java and study the fundamentals. If you make a big time game you'll use that PHP & HTML for your "Official Gaming Release" site! Sounds fun right?

C++ is probably one of the most useful languages for all-round purposes, though I started out with C#, and it's worked out good enough for me.

I've heard C# is based off VB.Net - Which if I'm correct, is exclusive to windows, and I'm on a mac. I've also heard C# Is much easier too, but that C++ is much more powerful.

I recommend starting with something that gets down to the basics such as C. Then something like Python, PHP, Bash, etc

HTML and CSS is more for websites and not really 'coding'. As people have recommended, learning C seems to be your best route into coding. Unless you want to be a website developer or make your own websites, then you'd need to get into those two as well.

So, I've been wanting to get into programming for a while now. I know a little of HTML, CSS, Javascript and that's about it. I've fooled around with Python at one point. I can't decide on a language to learn - and I mean learn deeply. I've noticed that many languages have similarities. So once you learn one, learning others is much easier. I'm pretty much interested in programming anything that would benefit other people. OR games/apps, which I've heard Java is the best for. I'm really interested in learning one of the C languages, but I'm not sure which one. (Objective-C, C++, C#) If any of you guys could lead me in the right direction, I would very much appreciate it! You forgot to mention C itself, the mother of pretty much all the other languages.
C, being one step above assembly, is very simple and does not have large amounts of features,
so if you want maximum performance, the smallest executable, C is the way to go.
It is used for kernels, embedded device drivers, device drivers, <good> malware, and some high performance apps.

Every language has it's own advantage, and C being the father and one of the most famous languages ever, in my opinion, should be your next language, I am saying this because you can practice programming without stepping on the complicated things like OOP (I know this from experience).

Yeah basically C# language is just elder version of C++. So if you have learned C# its similar to C++ language. There are some small changes being made, and some differences

C# is not an elder version of C++... C++ has been around longer than C#. C# is Microsoft's version of Java, and there are no small differences between C# and C++, there are huge ones. You have no clue.
