My sister got an iPad at 3 years old, and she plays games like temple run and stuff, but also uses youtube religiously along with netflix. She's 5 now. I don't think parents should restrict unless they have a good reason to.

That's exactly what my younger sister does.

I know. Legs and hips.

I know, lol. I was just trying to show how useless they are. Any retard with half a brain could bypass them. Tongue

Mhmm. Legs, stomach, front midsection, lower back.

I don't think a 7 year old would be able to. And I mean just blocking porn sites and edgy virus sites. Freedom to explore.

I think we need @Cressi to verify our tastes.

What age does it really become okay for a child to be introduced to the internet, ad in any part of the internet?
Does age even really play a factor, beyond COPPA agreements and the like?

What should children be educated on before using the internet?

My personal opinion, age isn't a good indicator, as with intelligence and maturity, I imagine some (very rarely) 8 year olds could be more civilized and "grown up" than a lot of teenagers.
As far as what they should know?
Things are never what they seem here. People can't really be trusted, sometimes not even yourself.
How to avoid viruses, to not give your information out willynilly. (Hopefully my children pick that up as automatically as I did, but for different reasons.)

What about you? Do you agree or disagree with my opinion, or have one of your own?

(Try to keep it factual if you're stating something as such, provide a source as needed)

I think it would be neat if you needed an access code to get internet service, and the only way to get that code is to pass an etiquette test. Or a basic knowledge test. Much like California requires a vehicle inspection before getting registration on a vehicle.

Devising such a test would be near impossible.

"it would be neat", doesn't mean it is practical

If such a test was in place from the start, then there would be almost zero comments on any YouTube video.
