Whats the best desktop recording software to use? 03-25-2014, 09:04 PM

So I've been planning and jotting down a few ideas for some videos that I could make for YouTube as a part time entertainment go-to and I would mainly be recording things that are on my desktop. Perhaps programming lessons, website security tutorials, and other things that are alike.
Bandicam doesn't really cut it for me quality wise, nor does any other free software I found on the net. One tool I did use for a little bit was Camtasia and I was pretty impressed by its' quality and software features but I'm really not looking to pay that much money for recording until I've earned enough YouTube profits to invest in Camtasia.
Are there any other maybe free or low priced desktop recording solutions I can work with to start for YouTube uploading? If there is please post below, and, maybe some good video editing software I can tryout that isn't too difficult to use. Remember I'm pretty new to this stuff.
Thanks so much!

Be yourself. Don't listen to people that judge you. Lead as an example. Treat all with equality.
