Just destroy the HDD and RAM, and you're good to go or is there something more?

Moved from The Lounge forum to Hardware & Customization.

Ram Is volatile, so disregard It.

The HDD/SSD may contain sensitive data, hence grab a hammer and smash It to bits.

What about the flash memory where intel me/amd psp is stored? Doesn't it contain some sensitive data too?

In terms of flash memory, absolutely.

This will sound silly, but I've legitimately never disposed of a laptop. I still own all of the laptops I've ever had. Isnt that strange!?

A good thread for those considering it.

I have a friend who does the same.

He's still got a couple of broken laptops collecting dust dating back to 2010. I believe they've given him good memories, hence decides to hold onto them.

There's definitely some hoarding principles with me. Although, most of mine are all still functional machines. They just need one/two things fixing. However, gathering the surplus funds to justify spending money to get them back to former glory is another thing...

If you live in an urban area, I'd suggest breaking the laptop and throwing it in two different public trashcans. Saw or do some similar kind of damage to the HDD and dispose of it the week after. Before long all your troubles will be swimming in the Atlantic or Pacific.

There's nothing wrong with hoarding.

I was the same around 30 years ago, until I ran out of storage space and realized just how much junk I collected. Nowadays, If It's broken, It's tossed In the trash.

That's fair. My hoarding tendencies have drastically reduced in recent years. I suspect, if I could get the data off all my old devices without assistance or a long learning process, I probably wouldn't have kept most of them.
