There was a very particular style of DDOS attack just now, it was mitigated.

Personally, I think a newer Pixel with GrapheneOS is the best thing on the market right now for a privacy and security conscious person. But honestly if someone made a dumb phone with Signal and Spotify/Tidal on it, I'd be happy with that. Right now I'm on an iPhone but I don't particularly trust Apple. Their privacy focus seems to be mostly for advertising.

What do you use and why?

I use Oppo. Why: because iphones and Samsung's are sucking ass.

Im in love with Oppo so far. Would like to try Xiaomi and OnePlus but I'm a bit afraid to make the change since Im very comfort with my Oppo A94 if you're guessing.

Edit: Iphones always sucked.

Best of luck getting a reasonable response on that.

Consider your pwn physical security as well as your organization's policies in place.

In terms of security, your device is going to reasonably insecure because of SIGINT requirements. Your organization may, for instance, allow use of personal portable devices but mine doesn't and it is a strictly enforced policy. It is because all cellular signals are subject to interception and interference, and iPhones are no exception to that policy. The only exception that exists in my work is if I had a government issued device such as USB or cell phone that was compliant with DoD standards and has been validated by a supervisor. It's not that I am not trusting of devices themselves, but rather the people that are in charge of creating those devices, and their default settings that are enabled (or disabled), which facilitate interception and aggregation of my personal information as soon as it is available on the device.

That said, you should also take into account the operating system, which is also very insecure by design, at best - e.g., using no method for encryption at rest or FDE unless expressly setup by you or the issuer. All cellular devices facilitate spying because of the ease of use when considering portable malware tools, eavesdropping technology and personal information that most people make available on them.

It's just an unfortunate fact: we routinely use these devices and choose between security and convenience.

I appreciate it. I'm more than happy to weigh in on the current standards of security because it's my field of work and because I am constantly learning new things. I am happy that I can contribute to the discussion where it's going to generate proper thinking. I want to make people think as much about security.

I dont really know how to answer this in words, I probably dont even know how to explain it in my language to be honest. But anyway if you look closely Iphone's are generated for kind of dumb poeple or females. They are so simplified and never had a lot of options like androids did and still do. People were buying Iphones for its camera even though the battery storage was disgusting and of course people were not liking it but anyway they just upgraded to the next Iphone because "Iphones are the ones!" In iphones apple is always winning. Apple is like snapchat. Apple also creates problems and sells the solution. Apple is disgusting, Iphones got people to buy MacBooks with those ridiculous prices. Apple, Snapchat are designed for the people in this case for "sheeps" for the guys that ask if its legal to download mp3 songs from google. Biggrin

Accidental double post. D:

Apple is notorious for two things: 1) in the past, you couldn't upgrade the hardware on your own, and most shops would deny you access to supplies to do it yourself for what is called "tampering". This company makes a lot of money per year, why would they deny users (whom have paid presumably almost $1000 USD for the device, let alone the service) access to supplies if the system was secure by design? Uh, I agree it is a status symbol, that much is obvious. These devices are called "flagships" and touted as secure and private but the reality couldn't be further from what they claim. Smile

This article outlines reasons to blacklist every device in your home, and whitelist only those you trust. Trust being the operative word, because all devices are created equal when it comes to surveillance and backdoors. You thought Microsoft Windows was bad when you looked at the software and Intel management engine, etc.? Look at the firmware on any android (stock) and you'll find device drivers that are not patched and security updates on the OS that are neither updated nor secure from local attacks. But the remote means are the most concerning, because they are mostly zero-click and ID/exploit tasking is usually automatic (see: Shadowbroker's Oracle/Swift exploits).

Oppo and Oneplus are merging, and are roughly the same now.
