I wasn't aware the GTX 1060 also comes In 3GB. I thought It was solely 6GB.

How do you find Its performance?

Yeah theres a 3GB & 6GB - It performs pretty much identical maybe 5% worse, i dont have any issues with it.

Not much difference between the two.

I have both the GTX 1060 (6GB) and GTX 1070 (8GB), on different systems of course and not SLI. The GTX 1070 chews anything I throw at It.

Yeah, ive been thinking of upgrading to a 1070ti since the 3gb vram can make it stutter sometimes.

Well I recently ordered a new laptop (Thinkpad P52) so yeah here's the specs and maybe some images when it comes in.
  • CPU - Xeon E-2176M (2.7-4.4GHz, 6 core/12 thread, 12MB cache)
  • GPU - Quadro P2000 4GB
  • RAM - 32GB (2x16) DDR4-2400 ECC
  • Storage -1x 2TB 5400RPM SATA drive, (hopefully if they work) 2x Samsung 970 EVO 500GB M.2
  • Display - 15.6" FHD, "300 nit/full sRGB/70% NTSC"
  • OS - Windows 10 Pro for Workstation, probably going to dual-boot Linux just in case I need it for whatever

I know some people won't be happy because "ew it's a Thinkpad" but hey, I've always liked them from the old IBMs to the new Lenovo stuff and with the two discounts (student and workplace) plus the $250 code I got it was hard to turn it down at the price. I wanted a workstation laptop and a workstation laptop is what I bought.

Some might be surprised at the amount of people rocking ten year old netbooks that are still running just fine.
On the daily I flip at least one Intel Atom 1.6GHz /w 1-4GB RAM and no CD-ROM drive.
That last part is fun because people have to come back and pay me in order to reinstall/repair Windows when they break something. (Normal users always break something. Always.)

Nice.

I have an old Compaq Presario laptop from the mid-90s, with Windows 95 locked away In my cupboard. From memory, It has a 500MB HDD and (I believe) 4MB of Ram. Apart from taking 5 minutes to boot up, It's actually fully functional and almost In mint condition.

Sounds like you can run Civ. Don't see any problem.

It'll be lucky to run MS Paint.

On a serious note, It functions well and surprisingly has a 30 minute battery life.

30 minutes back when those specs were king was some illin' battery life, mambru.
I'm pissed at anything less than 3.5-4 hours these days. My on-site work lappy does 7 hours without flinching, and it's ten years old with no battery replacement ever...
Fucker's a trooper, no doubt.
