AI was actually used for certain aspects of the site's relaunch, including template edits and certain tedious operations. Even with ~15 years of experience using MyBB, I am not a full time PHP developer.

Codex turned a multi-week project into just a few days. There's obviously some things you absolutely do not let AI handle... For example, I'd never trust it with user data or security-specific features. However, it was amazing for diff-checking core file changes across versions, and consolidating changes that MyBB made over the years.

I was originally quoted by an older MyBB developer roughly ~$350 (a very fair quote) to update the site. This included updating 30-40 plugins and updating the board from MyBB 1.8.26 all the way to 1.8.40. Rather than pay the developer (and risking data exposure), I ended up doing the work entirely myself, in less than 3-4 days.

It's always cheaper to do it yourself. You just need to assess the damage if it's something you're capable of fixing or doing yourself. Luckily AI is around to help produce most of the things that would need an "updating" or "improving" on here.
