What does rep mean to you?

I can see your point, but also remember that this a community. Sometimes rep is given for the purposes of having made a connection with someone & establishing a friendship as well as being to offer other things.

Or if you're a member of HF, buying it. I see people selling reps for $0.25 if L33t and $0.50 if ub3r.

Oh wow. Yeah I don't like it done that way. Rep should always be given freely, otherwise it defeats the purpose imo.
