Oh god no.

They didn't monitor the ISP.

Using Tor(lol), VPNs(worse lol), HTTPS( lolllllll ) won't prevent this type of monitoring. They had access to the actual service's servers. All stream encryption was rendered worthless.

The only things that have a remote chance at working are the local encryptions. PGP, TrueCrypt, and things like that.

For fucks sake, don't talk out your ass.

I'm making changes myself to help increase my safety while browsing online. That is uninstalling Google Chrome and using Firefox, or Chromium. As well I'll be adding security plugins, and just general other stuff. Said to see this happen, but DuckDuckGo is a really good search engine, and it doesn't allow sites to track you. So, I highly recommend it.

Don't ask for your government for your Privacy, take it back:
Browser Privacy: HTTPS Everywhere, AdBlock Plus + EasyList, Ghostery, NoScript (FireFox), NotScript (Chrome)
VPNs: BTGuard (Canada), ItsHidden (Africa), Ipredator (Sweden), Faceless.me (Cyprus / Netherlands)
Internet Anonymization: Tor, Tor Browser Bundle, I2P
Disk Encryption: TrueCrypt (Windows / Linux), File Vault (Mac).
File/Email Encryption: GPGTools + GPGMail (Mac), Enigmail (Windows / Linux)
IM Encryption: Pidgin + Pidgin OTR
IM/Voice Encryption: Mumble, Jitsi
SMS/Voice Encryption: WhisperSystems, Silent Circle ($$$)
Digital P2P Currency: BitCoin
Live Anonymous/Secure Linux: TAILS Linux
If you have any problems installing or using the above software, please contact the projects. They would love to get feedback and help you use their software.

That was a copy/paste from somewhere that I had saved on my comp. Never said any of this was new news, but just because something isn't new doesn't mean it's not new to someone who doesn't know. /shrug

More like if I could give more than just a single fuck. I read over it, for the regular person what I posted will do just fine, for someone whose more blackhat, it'll do little to nothing.

It wouldn't do fine for a regular person. You claim that those will somehow prevent government surveillance, when maaaaaaaaaaybe 10% would have any effectiveness.

You're right if they continue using the same sites they always use. You gotta find substitutes for Google and what not. Regardless if you take precautions they can just take a peak into Google's Servers and bam. Time to use other things. Regardless why are we all of a sudden giving a shit? They've been at this for years, they already know so much. Why should we all of a sudden start taking precautions, when they have years of information on us already?
