But, if you are white-hat, you don't really have to be scared. I usually search for vulns even on big websites (found SQL injections on government websites) and I don't really use any VPN or so. This is because I simply report all of the vulns and tell them how to fix them etc. Also, if I find SQL injection, I don't fully exploit it until they give me a written permission :)

Ive never heard of whonix before thanks ;)

Well, I guess a VPN works better then TOR. TOR is really slow and I tought there's still an output.

I agree with Anima and stanly... Somewhere Tor isn't as much secure. Cyber Security Researchers are on tor and they figure it out...

With regard to Tor, who is in the exit node can easily sniff your packets and decrypt it with sslstrip, so I don't trust very much. VPN depends on what implementation you are going to use. SSTP for example is useless for this purpose. SSL/TLS would be the right choice. Yet, there are some concerns about logs.
