Upgrades, Points, and You
TL;DR: I reset everyone's SP. You can now buy upgrades.

So, lately Newpoints hasn't served much of a purpose (save for the overpriced awards). To fix that, I decided to reset everyone's points, and spice things up. Now, everyone will be able to purchase upgrades using both SP and money. The scale at which SP is awarded has also changed, as people will be paid 3x as much for making threads. I hope everyone that lost SP understands why this is being done.

I want upgraded members to either:
  • Have posted consistently, earning enough SP to cover the upgrade.
    OR
  • Have donated money, and assisted in paying for some of our many expenses.

Now, you can pay ~$175 and get all the upgrades. Likewise, you can also make ~1750 posts to get them. You can both post and pay money for the upgrades, too. I assume most members would prefer this type of system. One that rewards donators and people that consistently contribute to Sinisterly. Additionally, I would like to mention that we are working on revamping the site's theme. A lot more is coming and this is just a small start.

Have a great day!

Hopefully this will help boost some activity.

So, a full upgrade is worth 1750 SP? How much does each upgrade cost in SP?

Lmao I was saving my SP for a day when it would be useful; Sucks how it was reset as soon that day came.

The day wouldn't have come unless I reset it. The rates are different and some people had scary amounts of SP saved up.

I totally understand what you're saying here @dyme because I was also saving mine. @oni and I talked a bit via skype after implementing this change though and I honestly think this is pretty exciting. I'm a little bummed about the SP, but in the grand scheme this new implementation effectively makes SP a completely different currency now.

Good stuff

That was something I was hoping would come into play. Another thing to consider would be closing off certain sections unless the user has the points?

Even since IRL currency has been introduced into the forum, the need for NewPoints has plummeted. Honestly, you can't achieve any status via point, only via paying a three digit sum.

Also, can you clarify about these boxes u see in the SP shop? Does this mean I can upgrade through the new tiers (bronze, silver, gold) through SP?

Yes. If you get the upgrade boxes, you can redeem them for the actual upgrade. This removes the necessity of actual money.

Wow I had like 9.5k saved and I was going for the over 9000 award. That's bullshit.

If you had over 9000 SP I will give you it. Send me a PM.
