Twitch DMCA Crackdown #1
Twitch has been cracking down, warning/banning streamers over DMCA complaints. Due to how large Twitch has become since Justin.tv, it's no wonder Amazon is under pressure. I work with several well known streamers and they've shared concern as well.

Quote:Twitch has implemented a mass purge of videos and clips from the VOD sections of its huge user base. Thousands of clips were removed from Twitch users' archives in a mass crackdown of the use of copyrighted material on the live-streaming website. Twitch has forgone its usual routine of requesting users take down the videos themselves, and is not offering those affected the opportunity to appeal.

In an email to many of its partners, obtained by esports writer Rod Breslau, Twitch stated that "We recognize that by deleting this content, we are not giving you the option to file a counter-notification or seek a retraction from the rights holder. In consideration of this, we have processed these notifications and are issuing you a one-time warning to give you the chance to learn about copyright law and the tools available to manage the content on your channel."

I like Twitch to some extent, but there are many aspects that bother me. I'm not sure how exactly they'd be able to get around this problem though?

What's Dlive? I've not heard of it.

Just another live streaming platform.

Is it specifically for gamers or does it have a wider audience? I'm not sure I can see it being successful unless there's something unique about it. Look at Mixer, for example.

It seems like their most active category has ~6000 viewers, while the largest streamers have ~150 viewers.

Not even comparable to the numbers from Twitch, but the theme does look nice.

Ah there we go. Its been around since sept 2018 as well. I don't really see it replacing Twitch. That's not to say it doesn't have a place in the market, but in order to survive long term, I hope they have some good business plans.

This Isn't Twitch's fault so much as the broken and archaic DMCA system, as well as record companies that abuse the system because they know you wont fight back. I have however, thought of a few ways around the problem of Twitch and DMCAs. One is to setup your own internet radio, or use music that the content ID system doesn't flag.
