Turn that old PC into a Powerful Router #1
Got an old Laptop or Tower just sitting around?
With some very simple modifications and a new OS you can turn that hunk of junk into a extremely powerful router.
What will you need. A computer with at least 1 Ethernet port(You will want a minimum of two) and for Wireless connections a wireless card.
Got them, Great! Now to the fun stuff.
First wipe and clean that old computer (You will only need space on your HDD for a new OS and literally clear that dust)
Next you will need to install a new Operating System(I recommend dd-wrt or RouterOS but there are other options such as zeroshell)
Now you will have to go through all the various options(They vary on the OS you chose)
Now plug in your Ethernet cord from your modem(or Antenna(Tutorial for DIY Yagi coming soon))
And Enjoy!

For those who are visual learners I will add:

Thank you for the share. I will give this a try when I can. I had shared Internet connection via Ethernet to another laptop when I tethered my phone to my main laptop. Sadly, I can't solve this "Home Networking Connection" issue I'm dealing with currently so I just left it the way it is.

Personally (as opposed to RouterOS) given DD-WRT Is open source based on the GPL (GNU General Public License), I'd go for that.

Nice contribution Indeed.
Thank you.

I have the same opinion about RouterOS, although I personally use OpenWRT at home.
I also want to mention that a lot of companies at my city use Untangle, I just think it's an interesting thing that's all.

This is very interesting, I have still an old Mobo laying around, this is definitly worth try to build a new router. My current router sucks (I barely use Wi-Fi), but this would be nice to have.
~~ Might be back? ~~
