There was a very particular style of DDOS attack just now, it was mitigated.

As you say. Companies that are able to learn from an experience shouldn't lose customers. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.
E.g., Hide My Ass (HMA). More like, "Hide? My ass!" LEA's had a field day with the service that said they would but ...didn't.

Your comment killed me, had a good laugh from it. That aside, they've also had their IRC leaked. Goes to show on how these "privacy-focused" services respect users privacy.
We've been leaking IRCd's for decades, nothing new.

In my view, they never were to begin with.

There's a big difference between being labelled as a reputable entity, to the service they actually provide - or lack of It.

More to the point: stating they no longer collect any usage logs is not the same in any way to not *actually* collecting logs. Any way you look at it, a website always creates specific logs at least momentarily to retain for their records and this can and has been exploited. HMA is a placebo as well. It's sad that they're still one of the most popular VPN providers out here.

Spot-on.

Irrespective of what they state In their policy (or should I say "what they want you to believe"), every provider collects and retains logs to a certain degree.

And unfortunately the average user will base their judgment on reviews, most of which are misleading and/or perhaps paid by the VPN service Itself to provide a good rating.

For streaming without being blocked WeVPN seems pretty good

I've yet to use WeVPN.

In your experience, how does It perform compared to other major VPN providers?

I'd say stay away from Proton, as they handed over data to the swiss government about one of their users.
More here: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=QCx_G_R0UmQ. (Or youtube.com/watch?v=QCx_G_R0UmQ)

And no, the url isn't a phishing link, its an invidious mirror.

ExpressVPN did the same thing many years ago.

I've heard some criticisms about NordVPN. For instance, even though I use NordVPN in a region where certain content is restricted and age verification is required, I still can't access it. NordVPN is garbage.

I used IVPN for around 2 years. An excellent VPN to say the least.
