For clarification, most countries aren't outright banning it, and certainly not for it's content or addictiveness. The bans are mostly centered around data security of governments officials who are exposed to sensitive information.

This actually doesn't surprise me at all. Although, I feel as though TikTok needs way better moderation or something. Content is horrid!

The law is implemented in a manner quite similar to what India did, its cool to ban chinese apps but idk about shit like internet freedom being damaged with stuff like this, it is often led by developing geographically native apps as alternatives, with a ton of censorship built within it.

I would love tiktok ban in my country. Sadly it won't happen and it wouldn't change much when there are alternatives like instagram reels or youtube shorts

Nepal has banned the Chinese-owned app TikTok because its content "was detrimental to social harmony." according to the BBC.

The decision comes days after the country introduced a new rule requiring social media firms to set up liaison offices in the country. TikTok, which has around a billion monthly users, has been banned by several countries including India. Earlier this year, Montana became the first US state to ban it while the UK Parliament banned it from its network.

The platform is well known for it's content, popularity and controversy.

It's already banned in various ways in various countries and the bans don't appear to be stopping. Many bans have been to prevent government staff using the platform due to concerns over security.

wonder what tiktok did in nepal that instagram and facebook or youtube didn't. why only ban one of the apps if there's so many versions of it now? reels, yt shorts etc. all work the same.
