I was googling it and they're not actually that spooky. It's just the lighting of the picture. They were used as a place for local radio stations in the 60s as well apparently.

Rather than creepy or scary, I'd agree with @Losimantom - it looks almost surreal. It's almost like watching what would happen in an apocalypse. They're old and decrepit, where hundreds of thousands of people used to go every day, full of memories, and it's now occupied by only webs, critters, and emptiness.
