Just because it isn't a part of how the vast majority of Muslims practice doesn't mean it isn't there.

A good example of such an occurance in the christian churches is how the old testament specifically forbids shellfish, wearing clothes with more than one fabric, and so much as thinking about another man's wife. Obviously, 99% of people that would identify as christian don't obey these edicts, but they are still a part of the teachings.
