As a lot of you may have seen, yesterday Trump ordered Google to block all communications with Hauwei. Meaning this could lead to a "tech iron curtain". China itself has already blocked almost all internet communications from exiting the country. Now that Trump has just fired this salvo off, the iron curtain could grow thicker, as the United States-China trade war continues. What do you think will happen?

Google has only been ordered to sever ties with Huawei, due to its incredibly high ties to the Chinese government. A similar move was made not to long ago (less severe) regarding ZTE however Trump also oversaw the lifting of this restriction.

It is certainly possible, and it is believable that a tech "iron curtain" is going to come about as a result of this and other changes, however I don't necessarily think I would consider a tech cold war.

This was pretty surprising to me. I thought it was a pretty hardcore move from Trump, and didn't really consider how US businesses would respond. I'm pretty sure google is taking a hit with this move, especially in relation to developing tech.

Strangely, I noticed the UK is still selling their android phones (we can thank brexit fears for that). However, I suspect anyone watching the news would think twice about making a purchase.

Many people consider it a cold war, including myself because of all of the shots that are being fired between the two. And just like the cold war, we could easily wipe eachother off the planet, so we're just throwing micro-aggressions in the form of trade.

Definitely a step forward. I know plenty were purchasing Huawei devices, due to their affordability (and overlooking possible implications). Imagine an Android phone without Google Maps?
