There are pros and cons with this suggestion.

Pros: Knowledge of the rules will make members aware of the do's and don'ts, hence posting habits will be compliant with the board's requirements.
Cons: Once the test Is taken and passed, all Is forgotten and LQ posting will continue along It's merry way.

And then there's the In between- how many members will take the test, and how many will simply disregard It and move onto another forum.

This. It would annoy users like Marketers, Tech Support or people who come here, seeking help.

I believe this is a good idea. But then again invite only is a good idea as well but obviously means less growth.

Bottom line is as follows:

We have two types of users:
- "I just want to sell my stuff and ask for help"
- "I want to join, explore, and contribute to this forum"

I think the best option would be to allow a set of guest permissions for some boards such as the Market Place or a Help Section.
--This would not require users to pass a test
The rest of the forum would need an entrance exam which, to be far, isn't rocket science. You read the rules? You'll pass. Easy peezy.

All in all, I do think this needs to be implemented as we do have an influx of people coming in to our home to either shitpost or don't read the rules, get pissed off when they're scolded, and then ultimately we lose that user. I really do believe this would benefit everyone.

When I first brought it up, I was talking about a very short, the basics type of test. Use it to replace the CAPTCHAs. If you think about it, we're already taking a test when we register, all we're proposing is making the test have some other use

The forum isn't active enough to be invite-only. It's true unfortunately.

The stories and information posted here are artistic works of fiction and falsehood. Only a fool would take anything posted here as fact.

Generally with our forum, I figured this went without saying. However, recent discussion has led me to believe otherwise. People are encouraged to read and follow our rules, especially those regarding illegal content. You have been warned - @Oni

It would be pointless. We assume that every user has read the rules, and they are enforced.

You and I both know that most users don't read them until they have been sufficiently told to...and they aren't as strictly enforced as they should. Many moderator actions require a sort of permission from Oni.

Sometimes we cut users some slack, yeah. We are allowed to act as we see fit. Sometimes the rules are up to interpretation, or @Oni might disagree with what we do. It's command structure. He outranks me. If I didn't trust his judgement, I wouldn't mod for him.
