Starter video camera suggestions? #1
I'm considering doing some youtube videos. I'd like to get a half way decent video camera for starting out. I don't want to blow a massive was of cash, but want something I can start with and maybe grow some with.

Any suggestions?

I would not hesitate to recommend a low end DSLR - I personally got a Nikon D3200 and don't regret it one bit. Apart from making videos for YouTube, which I no longer do, it's a fantastic camera, yes for pictures too. DSLRs give you more options to work with and you will learn a lot - throw it in Manual mode and snap some pictures of your bedroom wall, and you'll learn what goes into it. Canon offers some great first DSLRs, and if you're willing to dish out the right amount of money, you can find yourself a really nice camera. Try buying a Canon DSLR that's relatively new, but refurbished from Canon to save a few bucks. Also do your research on mirrorless cameras- such as the Sony NX series. DigitalRevTV has some good camera reviews and other good information, so check them out (this is not a paid ad, lmao.)

Had a medium budget Sony DSLR. It was pretty good and I'd recommend it for videos, unless you're planning on doing something serious.

Thoughts/opinions?

Is the Nikon D3200 a safe bet? What would be a good price on a used one?

1, I mean its a nice price, but I'd really make sure its not abused, and if its body only, or the full kit.
Its an OK camera, for its price, but I'd consider it a middle-entry model, honestly.

The D3200 brought its 24mp CMOS sensor, which got it on par with one I owned, the Sony A77, so its pretty decent, but eh.

A page that might help you decide:

This will give you a side by side comparison of all the specs of all three, including price and ratings.

Thx for the link. The one I mentioned comes with a 18-55mm lens. However, It looks like the D3200 may actually be a better camera for the usage I have planned.

As a general rule of thumb, Canon > Nikon for video. I have the D3200, and it's very good camera, and can produce decent video.

I have the Sony Handycam HDR-PJ275. It has very good quality and I can highly recommend it.

I'd recommend a DSLR. Best for beginners.
