Secret Santa (gauging interest for next year) #1
If you're a part of Reddit, Imgur, or a corporate office or school that organizes one, you're already familiar with the concept of Secret Santa. For anyone else, it's a "secret" gift exchange where the recipients don't know who the present is coming from.

I'm thinking of creating an SL Secret Santa for next Christmas, but I want to see if anyone's actually interested. Of course there's concerns about giving out names and/or addresses, but I feel that with moderation of who's participating (which shouldn't be hard since it won't be too many people) there shouldn't be any problems. There's still lots to figure out logistically, but I think this could go well if there's enough interest.
It's often the outcasts, the iconoclasts ... those who have the least to lose because they
don't have much in the first place, who feel the new currents and ride them the farthest.

It really depends on the theme/cost. For example, I'm not that technologically inclined and I'm not exactly at the liberty to drop a few hundo for a computer part to send off. I do love painting and cooking, though, so if painted figures or baked goods was allowed, I'd have great fun with that.

Theme all depends on what your giftee likes. Recommended spending would probably be around $20 USD, plus shipping for physical gifts.

I'm interested, but only if @Mom doesn't poison me with his/her food.

This should become an annual thing if there's continued interest; that would be neat.

I'm widely known for my delicious Cinnamon and Arsenic Pie. I'll send you a slice.

Don't worry, I know what I'm doing, I've quite a few dishes under my belt, and have culinary school coming up.

If this were to go ahead, to avoid scamming, doxing or any other malicious Intent, It'll require careful planning, heavy moderation and selective filtering as to the caliber of members participating.

I'm not suggesting It won't work (I do like the Idea), but more the fact that precautionary measures must be In place.

We could always keep it to trusted members who have been around a while within the community. Reputation where the user has serious investments already made is a good inventive to not go cock all. That and middlemen wouldn't be terrible.

I think this would have been easier to set up in the sites early days, before we witnesses various dramas and grew to this huge memberbase. However, I like the idea. I hope that closer to the time, we can regroup on the idea and see the interest remains. I'm sure there's a way this could be worked out logistically. (Probably similarly to how people remove personal details from human subjects studies but can still assign results to the participants - any psychologists here?) But yes, trust is an issue that will have to be assessed closer to the time.

Anyone interested in this would provide @oni or other trusted staff personal information for shipping.

Each member partaking would then send funds to said staff with product url for selected gift receiver @oni or whom is selected cam then arrange all purchases / shipping.
