As a newcomer who was tiptoeing with caution because of all of the rules, this is a very odd exception to them, but okay. Lesson learned quick - don’t give anyone here money, even with rep. Did this guy used to be trustworthy, and then develop a drug habit? I can’t imagine why else he’d have a great reputation and then suddenly start scamming many people, unless earning all of your trust was literally a big SE experiment from the get-go. Imagine that. Most plausible, IMO. Either way, while quite clever, I don’t think it’s appropriate to condone that, it’s not like this is an all out anarchistic board where anything goes. It would be one thing if it was a genuine misunderstanding, but taking money from many persons and then still being allowed to remain on forum... that’s inviting trouble, including ultimately from the financial institution who may receive screen shots and become privy to a world of awakening... bad move. Loose lips sink ships. I don’t even think he should be booted, let him stay on forum, but should he not, at least, be banned from selling? I’d bet he would stop showing up then, when he realizes there is no more vulnerabilities remaining here for him to exploit. Take advantage of big box companies all you want, they take advantage of you just as well - but straight up robbing struggling individuals who are clearly just trying to get by in tough times... Idk, to me, that’s just low. Fine though, I respect the need for solid proof as folks here surely have skills and tools to edit, so I just won’t buy from anyone here without safeguarding myself. The more you know... 🌠
That all said, for those who are unaware, don’t ever send someone money through PayPal via friends and family if you aren’t CERTAIN you can trust them. The fee difference or whatever excuse they have is utter nonsense. They can pay the “tax” or you can even offer to, problem solved. Come on guys, that’s literally the oldest scammer trick in the book. I find this so incredibly perplexing because I thought the folks here were SE experts, hackers, techies, etc., so how is anyone making this mistake? Is it newbies that happen upon the forum and actually don’t have a clue that are being robbed? I am not trying to be rude, just really hard to wrap my head around. The entire point of a scammer asking for F&F is to remove the ability for buyer to file a claim (DNA, refund) with PayPal. Likewise, if you don’t send F&F, and you prematurely mark item as received (as Funky asked of victim), that too will remove ability to file a claim. Further, if your intuition says “no,” then listen. I saw a lot of red flags in the original correspondence, including OP saying the website was weird. He was obviously hesitant. OP, listen to your gut. You already knew! Just so mind boggling, all of this. How does one make their way to THIS forum, but lack the common sense to not be scammed themselves? Anyone else see the irony there? Be smart, y’all. If you’re getting busted up in peer-to-peer trades, I can’t even imagine your slip ups in the larger scheme of things in the SE world, etc.,, and the repercussions therein are far more problemsome, so maybe take this as a learning experience and wisen up.
Atleast he's paying them back, that's respectable.
Indeed that is respectable but it seems like he's got himself into that position a fair few times.
