Have these change.org petitions ever actually worked with anything?
Whenever I've needed to buy something on steam I've found a lot of places that sell steam gift cards and accept almost any type of coin.
I wouldn't mind directly dealing with steam either though.

They more or less give an insight to a lot of people that have products or just want to hear peoples opinions. I'm sure it has changed stuff, but it's not like making a virtual document based on opinions would change anyone's views on money. Like that MW2 remake on new gen petition didn't work but it got a hell of a lot of signs.

Steam is never going to do this. Gabe has said that it's a definite fact that they're not doing it, regardless of petition or not.

There are too many factors at play for this to be accepted, and it would take a long time for the changes to be appropriately made in order for this to work.
I doubt this petition is going to do anything. I'll sign it anyway lol.

There's a thread here about some BTC+Steam arguments.

If I had a dollar for every successful online petition I'd have very few dollars.

The number of successful petitions is quite big, but very small proportional to the total number of online petitions.

I remember that one. I actually signed it. But Microsoft is toying around with the idea of backwards compatibility, the game creators only have to allow the game for next gen. So it might have been a deciding factor for them. Who knows.
