[SFW] I cut my hand open :( 05-29-2021, 10:23 AM

So, I'll begin by saying it's important to wear the correct PPE at all times for any given task. Never try to cut corners and never try to rush when you have time to do something right. Always be careful and vigilant. Never relax because every decision you make affects your likelihood of getting hurt.
I was at work, it was around 1430 hours (2:30 PM EDT).
I was pulling a rack that had been badly surged by a faulty wiring job. I went to use pliers to pull the wire from the rack after cutting the power
My hand slipped off the pliers and slammed into what I thought was the wall at first.
I looked down and realized I was bleeding a little.
I looked further down and saw a bit more blood was coming out of my fingers.
Then it hit me: I looked at the wall and there was a 1 in piece of rack that had been exposed by whoever installed it - they must have scraped the rack on the adjacent wall and it made a bur the width of a pencil lead. I grabbed my shirt and wrapped it around my fingers to stem the bleeding and called in a code blue to the emergency staff. I had a coworker wrap and bandage it for me because I couldn't focus: adrenaline is a bitch. I have pictures of the wound itself and during the stitching for those interested. 4 stitches, 1cm deep and 4cm long laceration.
Edit: In hindsight, I could have simply cut the B200 M5 wire from power, then unbolted the server from the rack itself and saved myself from prying the wire out in the first place lol
- the wound (not for the squeamish)
