9/11, Iraq, Afghanistan, Northern Ireland, the Middle East, Bosnia, and Sri Lanka have more or less taken place across lines of religion difference. The suggestion that, 'Belief leads to intolerance and ultimately to conflict' is one of the most popular ideas around. However that's not what this thread is about.
