Well the most common theory is of the First Settlers who rules the land and built the pyramids to rule and be their final resting place. The Egyptians believed that the more gold and wealth you have, higher chances of getting into heaven (Capitalist Alert!!!).

But this theory is interesting, i mean being that the pyramids are very old and their architectural structure might provide such a property is interesting.
