Purpose of Life? #1
This question has been an unanswered question for millenniums , ever since mankind existed and could communicate. Its a question that no one has and most likely never will find an answer too, but I am curios to hear your opinions on this. What do you think is the meaning of life, why do we live?

I personally believe that life has no meaning, its all up to each different person to decide what their meaning in life is. I personally mean that Life exists to so that Death can exist. We chose ourselves what we want to do with our lives, if we want to waste it then we do that, if we want to do something productive with our lives then we do that.

The purpose of life is what you get up every day and thing about, what you do on a daily basis, what you love.
You create the purpose and reason to live.

Scientifically to reproduce which is what animals instinctively do
Spiritually, to earn the gates of Heaven, or a good place in the afterlife which is what theists do.

I think the purpose of life is to create your own purpose.
Not necessarily to advance scientifically, medically or religiously but to aim for the best possible goal for yourself and reach that goal hence fulling your own purpose and to help others on the way.
If, in sixty years time, I have fulfilled my life-long goals and have managed to help others on the way to theirs then I will be content in knowing I have fulfilled my self-provided purpose in life.

I'd say each person has a different purpose, a lot of us don't know what we want to achieve in life so we just aimlessly wander attempting to make a living or "make it big".

I'd say that the purpose of, or at least aim of most people's lives, is the pursuit of happiness. What will give people that happiness, is debatable. I'd argue that love and friendship are two of the most important aspects. There's often a delusion that having money or status will give a person happiness. Anybody that's taken a course on economics would know about scarcity. Scarcity is just one reason why money won't make a person happy. Money might make a person happy temporarily, but that's about it.

I always thought the purpose of life was the fact that we are born and help develop the world until we cannot do it any longer. I wouldn't say its a 'waste' in the end either cause you're continuing the evolution of the world and say you're in the technology career, you have the possibility of changing something forever with some brilliant or innovative idea.

To add to my previous post

"The purpose of life is a life with a purpose so I rather die for a cause than live a life that is worthless" - Immortal Technique

I am an Existential Nihilist, I do not believe that life has a purpose and we are insignificant. Now the purpose of life is what you make it. Some have religion to do so, Christians believe that a life is something you dedicate to god and the purpose is to test you to see if you are deemed worthy to enter heaven and if you fail you go to hell.

The purpose Satanism, posits is that we have to enjoy everything we can because when we die, everything ends. Hence the quote from Anton LaVey "If you are going to be a sinner be the best sinner you can"

The purpose according to science is to reproduce, find a partner and carry one the cycle of life.

The purpose of some people is to find a purpose. You can dedicate your life to religion, you can dedicate it to fighting racism (Like 2Pac did) you can do anything you want, you as an individual have the power to create a purpose. To answer your question, there is no official purpose aside from the one you give it.

Pretty standard answer for most people. I've made answering this question my mission in 'life', ironically enough. I'll say I don't currently know, but it's certainly not going to be a straightforward answer. I think a large part of the 'meaning of life' has to do with the concept of death and existence and the human state.

I'll get back to you when I know. Wink
