I think the purpose of life is to achieve what's know best, get respected and have a family. Religiously, the purpose of your own life is a test. If you pass it, you enter Heaven, if you fail you enter Hell.

Pretty standard answer for most people. I've made answering this question my mission in 'life', ironically enough. I'll say I don't currently know, but it's certainly not going to be a straightforward answer. I think a large part of the 'meaning of life' has to do with the concept of death and existence and the human state.

I think you need to be looking deeper than worldly objects and their counterparts. If life exists so death can exist, what does this mean? This correlation makes the question twice as interesting.

I can just think of many things that don't have a counterpart. You're right about a lot of things having one. But, I wouldn't say EVERYTHING.
