Prevent Sales Thread Creation Until X Posts #1
Recently we've had quite a few users who do not bother to invest in the community come through solely to peddle some product or service, and then expect the forum, which has no possible way to know their character or intent, to trust them for the sales, without any proof or vouching.

My suggestion is either than we prevent people from selling things until we have enough posts from them to know their character, or require that all new sales folks go first, as they do not have any reputation as a reliable member or seller.

For those who would say "oh if we new members go first we'll get scammed":

Members who have been around longer are less likely to want to damage their account, for which scamming is a ban.

You on the other hand, have not invested in this place, so what prevents you from scamming?

Additionally, if I remember correctly, Oni offers middleman services.

Furthermore, acting like you run the place with your 5 posts, all of which are on your sales thread, only serves to push people away from your sale or service.

Well there's a number of things we can take into account here.

Most new users that create a shop will 100% be asked for a vouch copy to prove that the item they're selling is legitimate & working.

New users understand that and usually give a vouch copy to a trusted member or, even Oni if they'd like. https://sinister.ly/Thread-Vouch-Services

Another thing you could look at is if a member is pretty much only registering here to use the marketplace, given the fact that they need to make a post requirement to do so they could possibly spam the forum until they reach the required post.

A suggestion I would personally agree on would be a reputation requirement, this way they can't just spam the forum to get what they want as they'd get negative repped.

What's your thoughts on this?

The rep requirement is a good idea.
It'll probably permit to avoid a lot of scams (sarcasm here)

A lot of rep doesn't mean there will be less scams. If scammers are intelligent, they'll wait to get the required rep and will exit scam.

Given that the market place is active, which in this case it's not at all.

Even then, our member base is fairly smart and would most likely use a MM.

On the other hand, reputation shouldn't affect if someone is legitimate or not. I mean, a new user can be legitimate and a old user can't.

To be honest even if there are scammy shops opened by new users I would hope that other members would at least have the common sense to check if they're vouched or at least not go first to someone with no rep.

Seen too many OG's Scamming other new users on so many forums.

I don't think there should be a reputation limit, but we need something I agree on that. We have seen some really bad threads (in my opinion), qua quality and formatting. A lot of them don't want to offer vouches either, what I understand but you have to look at it this way.

We want HQ and friendly members on our forum (at least that's what I think), they want to sell their product. It could be easily combined and I do agree that the members that only make a sales thread here and have no interest in something else should be handled.

Maybe post a sticky that new members must give a vouch or show proof that they're legit before selling their stuff. Nobody is going to buy their stuff either, and they'll just leave after a month.

I have a couple friends that haven't used our forum and have products to sell. It doesn't mean their product is inferior or they aren't trustworthy, just means they aren't interested in forum discussion. I'm open to letting everyone post sales threads, as it's less likely we'll see spam. Common sense comes into play when doing business with new users. If the overall opinion is different, I can change my mind.

Whilst I do agree that an adequate post count will help define a user In a more reputable manner, If malicious Intent Is the user's objective, then post count Is Immaterial.

As Oni mentioned above, user awareness Is paramount when dealing In sales with the unknown. I do agree with this suggestion, but common sense and good judgement Is of equal Importance.
