Popular Download Service μTorrent wants you to pay for its Software #1
Quote:Just to enhance the services being rendered.

The popular peer-to-peer file sharing software application is aiming to achieve new heights by making their software be a paid scheme.

uTorrent is one of the clients of BitTorrent Inc. (the parent company) which implements a BitTorrent protocol. Where each client is capable of creating, publishing, and transmitting any computer file over a network, using the protocol.

μTorrent is a free piece of software and to support it, the company uses bundled software to offset the cost that would "otherwise be paid directly by the user."
"This is a familiar revenue model that is commonly used by software companies," the μTorrent team wrote. "It allows us to fund the costs associated with software development, as well as other projects and innovations."

However, the team says it's never satisfied with this revenue model approach, as it requires compromises and reduces a premium user experience, TorrentFreak reported.
μTorrent basically want to provide the best facilities to their users, while with an idea of bringing a change in their revenue model. That would, as the people at BitTorrent Inc. say would encourage the team at μTorrent to work harder.

The team also stressed its goals are simple:
Continue to make μTorrent the best torrent client available
Provide its users with clear options for supporting μTorrent (with options for every budget)
Be open and transparent throughout the entire process
Currently with a user-base of more than 170 Million users, μTorrent is determined to take this step. While, at the same time, the company has certain ideas that suggest, the company will ask for: Monthly, yearly or even a lifetime subscription fee for future versions of μTorrent
A significant fee for a lifetime subscription/license
A new version of μTorrent with limited functionality; to avail all the features asking for a sum of money.

One of BitTorrent Clients BitTorrent Sync is already running on a heavy revenue model, charging large amounts of money from its users.
As for a lifetime subscription scenario, they may not implement this model, as the number of users accessing μTorrent are average users who might feel the services as a hurdle.
Who are not able to digest this news could wait for another announcement, the final verdict as the team says!

I'm sure most of the people who use uTorrent are pirates, so I doubt they will be paying for this. Credit: http://thehackernews.com/2015/08/bittorr...p.html?m=1

It was just a matter of time, before this came Into effect.

If that's the case, as with all other software, I'll simply reverse engineer It. I've never paid a single dime for any software, and this certainly won't change that.

Who even uses uTorrent anymore? There are so many good alternatives.

I still use It, mainly due to familiarization and ease of usability.

There's no right or wrong, each to their own.

It will no doubt end up like BitTorrent and have a free version to download just with the added miner.
someone with no history is nothing but suspicious.

Yes, probably so. It's been a freeware version for so long, and It'll be utterly disappointing for It to be released as a paid product.

Let's keep our fingers crossed It remains the way It Is.

If they offered something that can help with the whole Windows 10 privacy issues, like encrypting your torrents and private trackers packets then they might get a few buyers seeing as torrent sites are banning Windows 10.

At least it's still on OldApps, so you can still get a good version. Wonder how long that'll stay up after it becomes paid.

Uh, which ones? I'm on about 8 private trackers and not a single one has banned Windows 10. I've also downloaded a LOT of things in the past few weeks, and have had nowhere near the experience of what's described here. People do know you can turn this stuff off when you set up Windows 10, right?

You can disable it on Windows 10, but is it really disabled? Also you can read here: http://www.zdnet.com/article/bittorrent-...-10-users/

Eh, so nothing has really come of it yet. And for right now I'll assume it actually is disabled, again, considering I've download 30+ movies in the past few weeks with no letters or anything to my door. And it's not like having a different OS will necessarily make you more secure, because I have gotten letters while torrenting on Windows 8, Windows 7 and various Linux distros. That sort of security is up to you to provide, whether that be through using a VPN, seedbox, etc.
