Today, Nvidia marked their collaboration with Sony, stating the PS4 will support Nvidia’s PhysX and APEX software development kits.

Currently, many game developers use the technology to augment collision detections, clothing, fluids, particle systems, simulation of rigid bodies, and more.

A news release from Nvidia went over the benefits of PhsyX more thoroughly, “NVIDIA PhysX technology is the world's most pervasive physics solution for designing real-time, real-world effects into interactive entertainment titles. The PhysX development environment gives developers unprecedented control over the look of their final in-game interactivity.” Essentially, the PS4 is a monster inside a machine, which means the titles being released for the system will set a new bar.

To further overstep the boundaries, the APEX technology gives the PhysX technology a heavy helping hand. “Taking PhysX technology content creation to the next level, NVIDIA APEX technology lets artists create intricate physics-enabled environments. They can expand the quantity and visual quality of destructible objects; make smoke and other particle-based fluids integral to game play; and create life-like clothing that interacts with the character's body to achieve more realism in their games.” The NPC’s of PlayStation 4’s many game titles are likely to shine. The new addition allows developers to expand, which will result in immaculate game environments. From this, it will bring us that much closer to the portrayal of realism.

Mike Skolones, product manager for PhysX over at Nvidia, was psyched about the integration. “Great physics technology is essential for delivering a better gaming experience and multiplatform support is critical for developers. With PhysX and APEX support for PlayStation®4, customers can look forward to better games."

The PlayStation 4 gets better as the days go by. With new additions and announcements constantly dropping, they are torturing – in a good way – fans. I, for one, cannot wait for the release. With so much support from outside companies, the PS4 is going to dominate the next-generation of home consoles. So then, where is Microsoft in all of this glory? They’ve given Sony a weighty and generous advantage, as the media’s buzz is hovering over Sony’s every move. However, Microsoft has kept quiet for long enough, and if they are going to have a shot at succeeding in the next-generation, they need to unveil their machine!

I'll just be sticking with my high-end computer, no offense to consoles of course. I just like PC gaming better.

@DarkRepulser I know what you mean, but these technologies along with the fact that they are on consoles is just ridiculous.

This is a good thing for console gaming. PS4 will be a pretty beast console in comparison to its competitors, but would it really be worth the investment?
