Exactly.
Seems like authorities want these to stop heavily, but they're targeting all the wrong things.
It's like you have the bubonic plague but the only thing you're doing is trying to cure the boils.
You look fantastic now, but you're still going to die.

A la, treating the symptoms, and not the disease.

That's quite the analogy. Tongue

It's using the same logic many vegetarians and "green" people use which is just backwards.
I hate to break it to you but just because some people stop, doesn't make the whole operation stop, not unless you shut down the source OR stop everyone guilty of watching it at the same time with a 100% rate.
In fact, some people like it just plainly because it is illegal, adding onto that whole watching population.

Its not defeatist, because beyond what I said about the animated/cartoon/drawn/etc bit, it is the current system in place. Actively searching, viewing, or not reporting crimes against children of a sexual nature is a 1 way ticket to jail in America. As it is, pedophiles in America may get a lesser sentence than less serious crimes.

I like expressing my thoughts through analogies and such, they seem to deliver the message much more powerfully.

That and, we're talking about a grave and serious thing. Only fitting to compare it to a grave and serious event. :p

Please refer above to the analogy of the bubonic plague I stated and thus why such measures are useless and thus, again for lack of better word, defeatist.

Worth mentioning, but if it's classified as a mental disorder - wouldn't that make it fair for them to receive a shortened sentence? I guarantee you the American prison sentence is not going to provide any form of rehabilitation for a pedophile. Oh lordy, no.

Please, if simple prison time didn't do you in, the other prisoners certainly will.

How exactly do you believe a pedophile could be rehabilitated?

Like any other psychological disorder.
Through hefty research and tests. Thinking something is impossible to recover is condemning something because you couldn't be bothered to try harder.

The same way you'd rehabilitate one of those bloody homosexuals.

Spoiler:
That's a joke, of course.

Dr. Cantor recommended possibly giving them something that'd kill their sex-drive or lower the amount of urges they have. I think it's possible, but won't be easy to do.

I was legitimately asking a question. Did not mean for it to come off as being incredulous.
I do know it is a disorder, but to my knowledge there hasn't been a rehabilitation program, otherwise I could see a system with slightly reduced jail time as long as they are rehabilitated properly.
However, if they don't do said rehabilitation, their sentence does need to be increased, for the safety of children.

Figured.
But, even so, the "therapy" they gave homosexual individuals wasn't really therapy, beyond the idea that "a dog won't stick his nose twice where it hurts", which is an inhumane way to treat someone.
