hololive VTubers Suspended #1
Cover Corp, the company that runs the hololive agency, issued a statement advising that two vtubers made "inappropriate remarks", resulting in a 3 week suspensions for Akai Haato and Kiryu Coco. I have also heard that one of the vtubers has left the platform permanently as a result (though I do not have a source to validate this rumour at this time).

According to the statement, "It was determined that both had divulged confidential YouTube channel analytics information on their respective live streams, used said data for their own purposes, and made statements that were insensitive to residents of certain regions." Although Cover Corp found that neither of the talents acted with deliberate intentions, they still violated guidelines and "were not sufficiently aware of their position and the level of influence they might have in their actions." Cover Corp emphasizes that its guideline training will be more comprehensive going forward, and that they will "continue to to work with even greater care to ensure that such an incident does not happen again." Akai Haato's livestream was set to private at the time of this article's writing. The video archive of Kiryu Coco's Thursday livestream has been cut at the 2:47 mark. Comments on the video infer that during the six minutes of deleted footage, Coco commented on her channel's viewership demographics by region. YouTube Analytics lists Taiwan and China as separate regions. In addition to the above statement, Cover Corp also issued a separate statement on its bilibili account emphasizing that the livestream does not represent the views of the company and stating that Cover Corp "firmly supports the One-China principle."

As far as I know, nither Coco or Haato have left. If they had I would have heard something about it; the suspension is 3 weeks. Second, theres a bit more to this story, thats not clear from the statement. Coco and Haato were discussing where their viewers were from, using google analytics. Hololive also simulcasts to billi billi, China's version of youtube. Google anaylitics lists Taiwan as its own country, and Taiwanese viewers were discussed. This angered the Chinese, and this is where the problem began. The irony is, hololive has decided not to continue to simulcast to billi billi, but the suspension remains in effect.

I followed this story, considered doing a full writeup of the whole thing.

They talked about that in the full article - the classification of Taiwan etc. Although, from what I heard, the vtubers weren't necessarily commenting negatively on that. However, I have no idea for sure what was actually said.

I have not seen the clip myself, but my understanding is it was "x percentage of viewers are frim Taiwan" or something to that effect. It was completely innocent.

Yeah, I see. So the company essentially said it was not intentional or their fault per se, and that they want to offer better training. But they've kept the suspensions? I find it a bit strange.

I have heard its to "calm things down" but thats just speculation. If I had to guess, It's more to do with early on in hololive's history. Billi billi was a big part of making it a success (hell, Azure Lane did a crossover with them, so obviously its a big deal in China) and Cover is trying to appease them somewhat, but since they are no longer going to stream to billi billi, whats the point?

Spoiler:
Side note: Even with the suspension, Haato passed 600k subscribers. Haachama keeps winning.

Yeah! I'm very confused as to why they're keeping the suspensions even though they dropped Billi billi? Also, the suspensions attract far more attention - Evidenced by me posting about it. I probably wouldn't have given the story a second look if it weren't for the lengthy suspensions.

Isn't the streisand effect fantastic? Its in full swing, so much so the Japanese government is aware of it.

Banning Influencers are not good for online platforms. Online platform is meant for unbiased and openness. Just banning and censoring content is not healthy for the future web.
