Review of Fairy Tail (Manga Version!) #1
Welcome to Sinisterly's very first manga review. Chapters for this manga are still currently being made by Hiro Mashima. The manga began on August 2006, and is currently it's 392nd chapter! As I say in every review (as a bit of a disclaimer) this review is based on my opinions and my opinions alone, so you may have a different opinion on the manga than I do. Now let's hop right into this review!

Synopsis
Set in an imaginary world, the Earth Land, there exists a Mage Guild called "Fairy Tail". Fairy Tail is stationed in the town Magnolia, residing in the Kingdom of Fiore, and is currently governed by Makarov, Guild's master. Lucy Heartfilia, a 17-year old girl, wishes to become a full-fledged mage and join one of the most prestigious Mage Guilds in the world, Fairy Tail. One day, out of pure coincidence, she meets Dragneel Natsu, a boy who is transportation-sick, but very cheerful in nature. However, the thing she does not know is that Natsu is the closest connection to Fairy Tail, as he is a Mage in Fairy Tail.

Plot
The plot of Fairy Tail is very well made, and in my opinion much better than the anime (even if they are the same). The beginning, unlike the anime, wasn't actually boring. Right off the bat I was enjoying the manga. The story throughout all of Fairy Tail's adventures was and still is very enjoyable. There are a few plots holes and power-ups to win fights that really didn't make any sense, but besides that it is extremely enjoyable and it definantely has a lot of re-read value to it. In the most recent chapters however, the plot is just beyond amazing. At first I thought the manga was good, but once I caught up to the most recent chapters I couldn't help but finish every single chapter with a huge grin on my face because of how amazing the plot twist or ending to a piece of the plot was. Major plot holes lie with Lucy's back story, but I will just assume that these will be covered later on so I won't dock any marks for them. The story gets a solid 10/10 without a doubt!

Characters
The characters in the manga are almost the exact same, so I will just copy paste exactly what was said about them on the anime review. With Fairy Tail, almost all of the characters are impossible to fully hate (with the exception of Lucy). One problem I did have with the characters in this manga, is that quite often you will have characters that will appear for a few chapters, sometimes even one, and then disappear never to be heard of again. This kind of aggravated me because some of the characters you meet for a few chapters you start to like having around, but then poof they are gone. One of the best things about Fairy Tail is that there is a lot of character development that goes on throughout the series that you usually don't see in a lot of Shonen. As the series advances, you learn about the backgrounds of characters, where they come from and what kind of person they are. Someone who you always thought was cheerful might have a really sad back story which is something that really kept me addicted. Also, through out the series, another piece of characters development is that the characters gain new powers, so you aren't stuck seeing the same fights over and over again. Overall I give the character catagory an 8/10. I took 1 point for the loss of some good characters through out the manga, and I took another point for my general disappointment in some characters.

Action
The fights in the manga are spectacular and are really something I looked forward to see in every couple of chapters. In the anime it was uncommon to find an actually intense "edge of the seat" fight, and they only occured every 20-ish episodes, but the thing with the manga is that almost every single fight that you get to read is amazingly drawn (props to Hiro very much on this one). I look forward to every single chapter hoping that there will be a good fight, and I am usually not disappointed. I'd like to note that obviously the fights in the anime are better than in the manga because they're animated and you get to see them happen, but they're still incredible to get to see in the manga. I give the fighting a 9/10, docked a point for a few fights that just didn't meet my hype for them, but you guys may have a different opinion!

Art
The art in the manga is absolutely stunning. There were a few chapters that'd I'd read and have my jaw hit the floor due to how amazing the artwork in the manga is. I really found it hard to believe that a single man could push out such a stunning piece of art once a week. This is really where the manga shines (even though I gave the plot a 10, lol) and it is truly amazing to get to read this manga once a week. If you're an artsy person who likes looking at beautiful works of art, you definantely have to read this manga because the art in it is amazing. And of course, without a doubt a solid 10/10 for art.

Final Thoughts
Right off the bat, I gotta say 10/10. The anime adaption to this manga was good, but if you're really a fan of the anime this is a mustread for you guys, just because of how amazing it was. I came into the manga from the anime expecting something exactly the same as the anime, but man was I wrong. I hate to fanboy over something so much, but the manga we have here is definitely one of the best manga out there, and there is a reason it is:

I love this manga. And you're completely right about a couple of fights not living up to the reader's hype, but that's okay. In general it is a very good series.

It still is! I caught up as soon as I finished the anime (few months ago) and I have been reading every single chapter every week and I've loved every minute of it!

I absolutely hate Lucy, she is probably the most useless character I've ever seen in any series, anime or manga. She has a single good fight and all she did to win was borrow someone's power. Only thing she is actually good for in my opinion is making good tearjerker moments.

I used to read Fairy Tail and I really enjoyed it. Somewhere along the line I just stopped reading it. But excellent review.

I highly suggest you pick it back up. If you want, you could do what a lot of people do and catch up on the anime and go from there!
