Hong Kong Police's Knockoff Mascot #1
HKPF have been accused of copying a well known anime character, to use as their anti-fraud mascot. They've gotten a bunch of criticism over the decision. The character is depicted below.

Quote:Social media users are criticizing Hong Kong police over their anti-fraud campaign mascot, which resembles a character from the popular Japanese anime "Kimetsu no Yaiba," or "Demon Slayer."

The Hong Kong police department posted an image of its mascot called "The Little Grape" on Facebook earlier this month. It wears a checked outfit and carries a black sword. And part of its name uses the same Chinese characters as Kamado Tanjiro, the hero of the anime whose film version has become a record-breaking hit.

Social media users have commented on the mascot's resemblance to the anime star. Some have described it as a near-complete copy of Tanjiro except that it's a grape. Others have accused the police of copyright infringement.

Hong Kong's pro-democracy activist Agnes Chow tweeted, "Kimetsu no Yaiba becoming a tool for Hong Kong police makes me sad."

Hong Kong media reports say the police insist "The Little Grape" is their original creation.

All it took for me was the hair and I instantly knew it was the main character from Demon Slayer. I can definitely see how they would be getting hate over this. That's some really poor character design. And even with the clear backlash the department still continues to defend its mascot. I wonder what the relationship is with the character designer(s) and the actual police department. If they were payed, the designer(s) could've low-balled the department with an easy knockoff.

I wouldn't be surprised if you were right. I've never watched the show and even I instantly recognised him.

It's Ironic How Anti,-Fraud mascot was created by Fraudulent method of Copying from a popular anime. They could have just reached to the anime studio for permission and they could have used it with their official license. This would have provided a great statement to the public.
