RE: OS X vs. Windows 8 #31
If I had to pick 1, it'd be Windows for gaming, however Windows 8 is a terrible OS. I'm excited for Windows 10 however due to what I've seen in the preview builds. Only thing that would draw me to OSX in the end is:
A) Simplicity
B) Ability to make apps for iOS

If I may ask, why do you believe Windows 8 Is not up to standard?

I simply like to read the thoughts of others.

I preferred the start menu of Windows 7 so much better, it made multitasking so much easier. Also a lot of programs I try to run refused to run on the OS. Not like there were problems and bugs with it not working once open, they just completely refused to run (most of my streaming utilities were just broken on 8). I heard a lot of that was fixed in 8.1 but I had to revert to 7, I couldn't stand 8. 8/8.1 was built for the Surface series/Touch laptops, not for a desktop/non touch laptop.

The one thing I will give it though, is it runs games much better and has overall better speed.

Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate It.

I'm actually quite surprised of the compatibility Issues you've experienced with applications. I've come across a handful of problematic software on Windows 8, but nothing significant to preclude my computing experience.
I have to agree with the Metro UI though, It's simply not suited to the desktop environment. As for the Start Menu, I have "Classic Shell" Installed which gives the look and feel of the Windows 7 Start Menu.

Windows 8.1 is alright, but only on a touch device like a Surface Pro.
If you use it on a touchless device, it just feels out of place.

Anybody else here a fan of elementary over OSX? I know it's not as complete, but I get the nice look of OSX with my favorite CLI. Anyway, I hate windows 8. Still rocking dual debain & win7. I expect I will be for a while.

If you navigate via Windows Explorer and not the Metro UI, Windows 8/8.1 Is much of a muchness to Windows 7.

Given Windows 8 runs two different computing environments, It's the Metro Interface that somewhat baffles users. I've disassembled the OS, removed the Charms Bar, Apps Switcher, Drag & Drop functionality, Metro/Start Screen, Explorer Ribbon and all native Windows Store apps. It's now as If I'm running Windows 7.

Elementary OS is nice. I've used it, but for the reason you mentioned in your post, the fact that it's not as complete, I still would use OSX over it.

Although, personally, I use a few different Linux distributions as well as Windows like I am doing right at this minute.
