LUMBERTON, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina judge overturned the convictions Tuesday of two men who have served 30 years in prison for the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl after another man's DNA was recently discovered on evidence in the case.

This doesn't say that they were innocent, just that there was a reasonable doubt introduced by the new technology. That's the danger of science. It always introduces more doubt than certainty. But that's also one of its best features.

New technology use is a risk, but if one innocent man gets out of jail because of it, it will worth it.

I'm curious... Since we know what evidence was used to set them free, do we know what evidence put them away in the first place?

Stuff like this is probably the only reason I can't support the death penalty. There is always a chance, just a chance, that we have it wrong and the person is innocent. It still sucks to be locked away wrongly convicted. Ugh. Some day can't we just get it right?
