A non-fungible token (NFT) is a special type of cryptographic token which represents something unique; non-fungible tokens are thus not mutually interchangeable. This is in contrast to cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, and many network or utility tokens, that are fungible in nature.

I still maintain my position on NFTs: They're a waste of money. You're buying the "rights" to an image file, you aren't dealing with unique currency like crypto.

It's like a signature of a ball player on a piece of equipment like a baseball bat or soccer ball. It's valuable to whoever buys it or owns it outright but has no inherent value except as ink on an object. It will have little to no value as @Oni mentioned but provides an interesting topic of discussion apparently, for now.
