Need some advice #1
I intend to get my Masters degree for Computer Science and eventually become a Software Engineer or maybe something better. I have heard that if you get a Ph.D in CS that you'll basically be writing and teaching like a university professor as opposed to actually programming and could have a harder time finding a job because of overqualification, do you think this is true? If anyone here has experience with that career choice I'd appreciate any general advice.

Points to keep in mind:
  • I really wasn't good with math until recently. I have sort of developed a passion for it.
  • I am pretty good with writing though I don't enjoy it at all and I'm top of my class in reading.
  • I am really interested in the development of AI's and have a personal goal to someday make my own.

I'm guessing he's just saying that overqualified people start off with jobs as low as McDonald's, or so I have heard.

I'm not good at giving advice, but I should at least say, that its good that your doing computer science, because that is what I am going for too!

If you feel that you are capable of getting a Ph.D and really want to learn more, then I guess go for it! But then again, I'm on the same road as you so I can't say too much.

I am the type that wants to learn as much about a subject as possible, however if doing so will hurt my chances of being hired or change what I do from programming to research paper writing and teaching then I prefer not to go that route.
