If you do, mine solo otherwise I would reccommend you to join a pool. Google Bitminter or BTC Guild or Slush Pool. Those are the ones that I can think of right now. You will also need a miner: Gui miner or bitminter's miner are the easiest to use. I hope I helped you with this and if you have any questions feel free to ask.

I only have one PC to spare. I guess I will join one, trying to find one with the lowest fee. Does it matter which miner I use or are they all the same?

Bitcoin Mining can be quite CPU intensive, hence Depaus's recommendation for multiple computers as most of the professionals actual use.

If you aim to mine for real. It is suggested to mine through your graphics card.

I used to use Guiminer and found out one thing, if you have more than one graphic card, launch the miner once for each of your cards for maximum performance. Also, Slush's pool is kinda nice from my experience (and I'm not saying it just because the pool owner is Czech Biggrin)
Staff will never ever ask you for your personal information.
We know everything about you anyway.

I don't personally have an interest or need for Bitmining itself when my line of work affords me easy living and great provisioning for my wife and son by God's grace.
However, I do stand corrected on the CPU statement as you're correct, [a] GPU['s] would be far better equipped for that task than [a] CPU['s].
I read your reply on the matter and facepalmed myself for overlooking such an obvious choice.:headbash:
Even AMD is beginning to build their "processors" on such a factual premise (APU).
Your logic has crushed me this fine Super Bowl Sunday good sir.
Point, match, set.
Game goes to 1llusion.

Well you better chek your Graphic card first. I have an Nvidia GT520 and run around 7.5Mhash/sec this would give me a solo income of 50BTC (1block contains 50 BTC) in around 2 years. (of non stop mining, and the difficulty increases over time so it can get easly 3 years) So in my opinion I could better mine in a pool. I use Bitminter. But slush Pool is a good one and also BTC Guild.

With that logic, a group seems better.

Deciding between GUIMiner and Bitminer for the program and BTC guild and Slush Pool for the pool.

GUI Miner is easier to use with BTC Guild and Slush Pool, or that's atleast my opinion? <3
