My new (temp) build #1
Hello everyone,

So my PC crashed like a week ago, now since I have exams I needed to order a build that was within my budget (already stretched to the maximum) and got here fast. So I ordered them from a company in my country (so I have the build fast).

Now what are your opinions about following build, and where is room for improvement (once I have enough money).

The part list:

As you're aware, Ram makes a big difference when multitasking and you need to look at It from a long-term standpoint.

If It were myself, Id go for a minimum of 16GB, MOBO permitted.

I do agree, the build will get at least an additional 8GB in January, since I don't have the money for it right now. For now it'll probably do fine, since it's only for a month and I don't really need my VM's for school work or anything.

Thank you for your feedback my friend. The MOBO allaws a maximum of 64GB of RAM, which is overkill but 16GB is the minimum I'd need.

The main thing Is there's room for expansion.

I cannot operate with less than 16GB of Ram- that's the minimum I'm running. I have 2 lappies with 32GB and It's nice viewing the available Ram when running 7 VMs simultaneously.

Your overall specs are very respectable though.

@"mothered" that is great man! Would love to have so much RAM, is it also DDR4? Must be nice being able to run so much VM's without your laptop breaking a sweat.

My laptop dies when running PuppyLinux in a VM --', but then again, my laptop is way older than your predator beauties.

I would've attempted to win @"phyrrus9"'s giveaway, and gone with the FX series xD

You should generally try to stay over at least 12GB of RAM, new applications have been getting more and more memory intensive. cough electron cough

Good luck with that 128GB, I've always been in a limbo between no space (not kidding, I couldn't make new files), and 20-40GB of free space.

Never heard of that PSU company, let's hope it's modular and doesn't explode.

Overall, it's alright. With the FX series you might've been able to find some DDR3 for cheap somewhere, that'll be harder with DDR4 since it's newer.

@"Ender" Yeah but I'm in my exams so there is no way I have enough time to post HQ threads.

The RAM is the first thing I'm going to upgrade in January, I hate 8GB of RAM as well but this was pretty much the limit of money I had, waiting longer wasn't a good option for me either.

That 128GB was just as an extra. I have a 256GB laying around for files/games. This is strictly for my OS. Apart from that I have a few TB of external HDD's so space isn't really an issue.
The PSU company is the best known budget PSU company, it had some reviews so I should be good for a while. I just hope 700W is enough, but it should be.

Thanks for your feedback man, I know what to change soon, any opinions about the GPU?

EVGA makes some decent cheap, modular PSUs, you should check them out.

I like the new GTX 10XX GPUs, they are decently priced. I made a build for someone with a 1070 Ti (could've been 1080, not sure), and it turned out well, and handled everything that was thrown at it (specifically VR).

First of all, when choosing memory, always look deeper than that. Things to pay attention to:
DIMM revision
first 5 clock timings (CL, tRCD, tRP, tRAS, tRC)
module channels
rank layout
and don't forget, a matching set worth 8GB will be better for you than a mixed bag worth 16GB

Secondly, FX=DDR3, ZEN=DDR4

As for hard drive space....

extra space is wasted space

Yes It's DDR4 @2667MHz, being 2 x 16GB sticks so I have 2 slots spare.

For Christmas I'll treat myself and purchase another 16GB, so all up I'll be running 64GB. Not that I'll be using the lot, but It's best to have more than enough than just enough. I purchased my lappy for 2,900$ so It's expected to perform well. The GTX 1070 (8GB) card can handle almost anything I throw at It.

This Is why I'm suggesting (and of course as you're very much aware) a "minimum" of 16GB of Ram.
