Just throwing it out there, Infected Mushroom. I'm into a large array or music myself and I quickly found out this is one of my favorite bands. I know it's out of the rock/metal genre but I'd love to broaden your horizons a little.

Look up the songs "Nevermind" and "Cities of the Future" to get yourself started.

Check out The Kooks. I really got into them a year back and still rock all their albums on my iphone. The new strokes album is really good too, not too much into rock these days. mainly hiphop. But I do collect a lot of old records. I do lots of record sampling and create new music in my creative moments. I gotta do it everyday and I have been doing it since 16.

Listen to the radio and just start jotting down artists to check out. Youtube is your friend.
