For versions of Windows live messenger earlier than 2011.
You'll need to do a registry edit
(export a backup first... always)
Open notepad, and paste the corresponding code into your .txt file, and save. Change extension to .reg, and merge into the registry by double clicking on the .reg file or right click > Merge.
For 32 bit:

For Windows Live Messenger 2011. There's a newer version of A-Patch that will let you have multiple instances of MSN open as well as a few other features that you might like.
