Major internet services are owned by college cultured businesses 03-22-2017, 01:03 PM

I just realized why I will never create anything that will get popular enough.
I'm a drop out of a lame for-profit college.
I don't have the prestige to amass something like facebook or twitter. or tumblr.
or tinder.
or linkedin.
or anything.

And what does this have to do with anything marketing wise? lol, but don't feel that way about yourself.
If you need someone to talk to, PM me.

No, going to college or dropping out does not effect you creating a site/program/buisness that grows to be a big deal.
Development is a profession that isnt effected by college. Its all about skill and ability. This was a dumb exuse tbh. You're blaiming the possible failure on the economy when its your own fault by giving up.
If you want to be sucessful you need to study up and work your ass off.

Sorry. life isn't all about what your skills are and what you know. It's also about who you know.
I was stupid to think that skills and ability would get me everything I need.
Success is relative to other people; I'm not naive enough to believe otherwise.

Funny thing is... facebook was created by a college dropout...
And Jack Dorsey (co-creator of Twitter) was a college dropout...
It really sounds like you're just trying to get attention.

To be honest, networking IS important. However, we exist in a world where all the information we need really is available with a google search or a phone call. I'm actually doing a Master's in Higher Education as we speak, so student success after college/university it part of my area. The reality is that the only way you'll get somewhere is by:
1) putting in the effort to build skills, not just technical skills in your field, but marketable skills. For example, the ability to speak in front of a room full of people. Your ability to communicate professionally, concisely, but also in a way that captivates attention of key stakeholders in a potential business venture,
2) You build the work ethic that includes ensuring you expand your networking skills.
The people who run your for-profit institution have connections, even if they're not the big guns that a huge research institution might have. Start somewhere and build up.
Personally, I am not a fan of for-profit institutions on the whole, but it is still an opportunity not to be wasted. At my undergraduate institution, the head of my department in Fine Art actually got rejected from art school. Now he's a successful artist, professor and is earning fairly decent money as the highest individual in a prestigious department. He didn't get there because of his institution, he got there because he forced himself to.
tl;dr: Institutions can impact opportunity, but regardless of the quality, all institutions provide some type of opportunity. You are the only person who will get you where you want to be.
