Macbook administrator account #1
It’s been a while since i posted a tutorial so here is a new one. This will cover how to create a new administrator account on Macbooks. This method will only work if you have psysical access to the machine. This is the first of three tutorials i will post about Hacking Macbooks since i think this is a topic where tutorials are missing.

Disclamier: I am not the inventor of this method, i have learned it a long time ago and thought that i want to share my knowledge with you guys.

How to create a new administrator account on Macbooks.

So lets get started. The first thing you will have to do is boot the Macbook into single-user mode. Do as following.
  • Shut down your Macbok if it is on.
  • Press the power button.
  • Immediately press and hold command + S down (You should see a black screen with white text).

You will have to mount the hard drive to get this method to work. To do that type:

Code:
/sbin/mount -uw /

*Remember all the spaces if the spaces if left out the Macbook would not understand your command.

You will have to remove a file which tells the computer that the setup has been completed.. This tricks the Mac to believe that it has been started for the first time and allows you to create a new administrator account. To do this type this command:

Code:
rm /var/db/.applesetupdone

This deletes the file called .applesetupdone which the computer checks for on every startup to ensure that is has already been set up.

Now you will have to reboot, so you can enter the setup program. To do that simply type in:

Code:
Reboot

You will now enter the setup program. Be sure to select “DO NOT TRANSFOR MY DATA”. Otherwise it will delete the old data on the hard drive.

Near the end of the setup program you will be asked to name your new administrator account. You can basically name it anything you want ACCEPT FOR THE SAME NAME AS THE OLD ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT! If you do that it will overwrite the old account and delete all data.

Congratulations! You have now successfully created a new administrator account on a Macbook. There is just some thing to remember.
  • It will not be a hidden one. It will be like any other account on the computer though you will have administrator privileges.
  • This will not work on Macbooks which has Firevault installed.
