What is lucid dreaming? A lucid dream is a dream in which you know you are dreaming. Typically this happens when the dreamer experiences something strange, and when they stop to question their reality, they realize they are in a dream. Lucid dreams happen naturally on occasion, although some people may have them naturally more often than others. The definition of lucid dreaming may be simple, but there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding it.

This is a beginners guide written by me for members that have been interested in the idea of Lucid Dreaming. I will take you step by step to make your lucid dream come true.

About 30 minutes before you start going to sleep look at your hands (staring) and repeat, "I will have many lucid dreams and be in full control", do this for a while. This step is Important, say it outloud no matter how loud just say it.

During the day say from time to time "Is this a dream?" It will sink into your brain and end you'll end up saying it in your dream and realizing it is a dream.

Don't do these things before trying:
  • Don't jerkoff before you go to sleep. When you intend on lucid dreaming it causes you to be unfocused and it wont working.

  • Don't watch scary movies before going to sleep because it may result in a lucid dream that you will loose control of and it may turn into your worst nightmare.

Tricks and Tips:
  • Time can be stretched and thinned in dreams! Remember this because if you are suspecting something is a dream you can simply look at a clock and time should be jumping from 1 to 6 in seconds.

  • You're hands tend to take diffrent forms.

  • No matter what happens you always have control

  • If you go into sleep paralysis dont freak out it will only make it worse. Best thing to do is close your eyes and just think, "I am outside of my body, I am outside my body" after a while you should either have fallen asleep again or you should be able to open your eyes and look at your own body as you are floating above it. In sleep Paralyzement if you see shadows with glowing eyes or any type of beings dont do anything they say. It will all be in your brain.

  • Look at numbers and letters they should not look right. Great way to see if it's a dream or not.

  • To increase the chances of noticing that you are in a dream is by performing reality checks throughout your waking hours. Reality checks consist of things that are possible in dreams but not possible in reality , for instance pushing your hand against a wall with a fair amount of pressure [any surface works] , now in a dream your hand would go through the wall however in reality it obviously doesn't. The intention of performing reality checks often is that it should be so routine that it carries over to your dream and when you attempt your reality check and you will spot that you are in a dream.(Credits to @[Cugino] for this tip)
  • Also keep dream journals. Dream journals are used for a couple reasons, the main reason if for you to find themes or common occurrences that happen while dreaming. That will essentially up the chances of you becoming lucid in your dream. For example, you would write down all you can remember from your dream as soon as you wake up (this is important because you will forget most of it quickly so keep your journal next to your bed or where you sleep) for a couple weeks. Then you read up on all your dreams and find a common occurrence like a stray dog coming up to you. Think about the stray dog and sort of use it as an alarm to wake up in your dream so next time you see the stray dog in you're dream you will hopefully realise you're dreaming.(Credits to @[Tree] for this tip)

If you end up in a sleep paralysis what to do:

Don't freak out!
  • Relax close your eyes and think calmly. There is nothing around you only yourself in your bed.

  • Keep your eyes closed and think, "I am outside my body I am outside my body"

I have wanted to learn how to lucid dream for a while, I will test this in the summer as it would be pretty damn cool to actually control my dreams!

Not going to try it, too scared to. Those that have messed it up say it lead to uncontrollable, vicious nightmares.

I really want to try this, but everytime I'm starting to not feel my body I move, because I'm scared. I'm also scared to fail on this because it might be a realistic nightmare for a very long time and end up having a heart attack. Confusedad:

Also how do you wake up from this if your busy dreaming?

Hidden Lesson: Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always well thought of.

Everytime i try this, i feel the need to move. An itch, or the worst that gets me is when i feel the need to swallow.

I feel it to, I just try to ignore it and it will go away. Confusedmile:

I've always read these guides, but never do it. I just don't feel the need to, I guess. However it does sound interest and I am kind of curious on how it would affect me.

Or to get out of Sleep Paralysis, just close your eyes as hard as you can.

OT: Very nice guide, keep it up. I recommend putting in more detain on how to actually achieve it.
