Loss of a friend :( 01-07-2013, 01:36 AM

Hey, guys.
So the other day I was out with some friends, when all of a sudden I get a call.
Now it was late and I didn't recognize the number, so I answered.
An older man said hello and asked if I lived near X street.
I said yes, why?
He told me he had hit a golden Labrador and his collar had my phone number
It took me a second for it to sink in, and for a while I could feel my heart pounding out of my chest and couldn't breath. He asked if I was still there, I said yeah and asked exactly where he was. It was about a mile from my house. I rushed over there like hell and the man who called me stayed there the whole time with him on the side of the street. I finally got there and told him thanks for telling me, and that it wasn't his fault. We talked a little bit about how he had dogs as a kid, etc.
I scooped up my old friend and put him in the back of my car and brought him home.
His sister knew something was wrong, she licked him and cried for a while, then went to sleep. I called the vet to take Stephen away, and that was that.
I had Steve for a long time, I'm still unsure of how he got out of the house, which makes me think someone may have tried to break in or something, no idea.
Rest in peace, old friend.
